Hydrogen chloride gas is a strong irritant, non-combustible gas, and it is highly corrosive after dissolving in water
Hydrogen chloride gas and hydrochloric acid are important in technology and industry. Hydrochloric acid, the aqueous solution of hydrogen chloride, is also commonly given the formula HCl.

High-purity hydrogen chloride is used for high-temperature vapor phase etching of silicon and gallium arsenide before epitaxial growth in the electronics industry to remove sodium ions; it is also used for chemical treatment of metal surfaces; mixed gas for lasers, film production and carbon fiber surface treatment.
